About the Role
We are looking for a skilled UxS Technologist to support the technical development, evaluation, and integration of our advanced uncrewed systems (UxS) platforms. This role is hands‑on and delivery‑focused, working closely with the Principal Technologist and wider engineering teams to help translate emerging technologies into practical, operational capability. The Role sits as the supporting position in CL’s Technology Office.
You will assist in research, prototyping, data gathering, and technical coordination across avionics, autonomy, systems engineering, and flight operations—contributing directly to the evolution of future UxS solutions.
Responsibilities
Technology Support & Development
o Assist in defining and updating technology roadmaps for UxS and associated avionics.
o Contribute to refinement of the CL Technology Strategy through research, analysis, and structured reporting.
o Support evaluation of emerging technologies and provide readiness assessments.
o Help coordinate cross‑disciplinary technical development activities.
o Systems Architecture & Integration
o Work with engineering teams to support development of future systems architectures in line with the CL Technology Strategy.
o Assist in documentation, modelling, and analysis of UxS system components and integration pathways.
Research & Development
o Conduct horizon scanning to identify new and emerging technologies relevant to UxS capability.
o Support collaborations with industry partners, customer groups, and academic institutions.
o Help coordinate technology partnerships held across CL.
o Assist in initiating and delivering internal R&D projects through planning, test support, and technical reporting.
o Provide project‑level tracking and coordination to support oversight of the R&D portfolio.
o Contribute to the company’s external presence in technical forums and industry bodies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
o Support business development activities through technical input, gathering data for white papers, and supporting bid writing.
o Assist in liaising with external partners, suppliers, regulators, and research bodies.
o Prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and analysis.
Health and Safety
Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner
Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.
About You
Qualifications
Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Robotics, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Skills and competencies
Essential
• Demonstrable experience in UAS, robotics, avionics, or autonomous systems development.
• Solid understanding of systems engineering fundamentals, autonomy concepts, sensing technologies, or flight control principles.
• Practical experience with prototyping, experimental testing, or hands‑on engineering environments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Project coordination experience or exposure to innovation/R&D programmes is desirable.
